Our Story
Zhi's Bug Hub didn't start as a business — it started with a flock of backyard chickens. We wanted to give them something better than store-bought treats, so we started raising our own mealworms. They turned out so well that friends and neighbors started asking for some too.
Where it all started — our own flock, and the coop Zhi checked every morning.
Then we got a bearded dragon, and the same instinct kicked in: raise the feeders ourselves, properly. We added dubia roaches and superworms to the mix — and people noticed the difference right away. Plumper, healthier, and noticeably larger than anything sold in stores. What started as feeding our own pets turned into feeding everyone else's.

Several years later, that's still exactly what we do. Same mom-and-pop operation, same insistence on raising every feeder in-house rather than importing them — just a lot more pets fed along the way.
How We Raise Our Feeders
Our mealworms and superworms are raised on a custom organic blend built around wheat and oats, plus a few other nutritional ingredients we've refined over the years (our own recipe, though we won't pretend it isn't a little bit of a secret). Our dubia roaches get a high-protein feed alongside plenty of organic fruits and vegetables. Nothing imported, nothing chemical — just feeders raised the way we'd want them raised for our own pets, because for a long time, that's exactly what they were.
Why It Matters
Gut-loading isn't a marketing term — for insect-eating pets, it's most of the real nutrition they get, since they're eating the insect's last meal along with the insect itself. That's why we don't cut corners on what we feed our feeders: an underfed insect makes a nutritionally empty meal, no matter how big it looks.
