Frilled dragons are highly insectivorous, arboreal ambush hunters — in the wild they wait in the trees for prey to pass below. Feeding should work with that instinct rather than against it.
Feeder Choices
Dubia roaches are an excellent staple — they climb well, which suits a frilled dragon's arboreal hunting style, and they're easier to digest than harder-bodied alternatives. Mealworms and superworms add variety for sub-adults and adults.
How Much & How Often
- Juveniles: Daily, appropriately sized insects offered on branches or elevated feeding dishes.
- Adults: Every 1–2 days, 4–6 insects per feeding depending on size and body condition.
Gut-Loading & Dusting

A Few Things to Watch For
Offer insects at branch height rather than on the substrate — frilled dragons spend most of their time off the ground and may ignore or struggle to find feeders left at the bottom of the enclosure.
